Terms of Use
By using Synod of Soup you agree to these terms. They are written plainly because plain language is more honest than legalese.
What this site is
Synod of Soup is a free, scholarly comparison of religious traditions, with public discussion threads. The Synod itself takes no theological position. Every position presented is sourced to that tradition's own primary documents.
Account and conduct
You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. You are responsible for everything posted under your account. You may not post:
- Targeted harassment, threats, doxxing, or personal attacks
- Content that is illegal in your jurisdiction
- Spam, advertising, or repeated off-topic content
- Content that misrepresents another tradition's actual teaching (good-faith disagreement is fine; deliberate caricature is not)
- Sexual content, gore, or other content unrelated to the site's purpose
The marketplace of religious reasoning is hard, sometimes uncomfortable, but always conducted with the dignity of disagreement. Posts that fall below that standard may be removed.
Moderation
We may remove content or suspend accounts for violations of these terms. We aim to be slow to act and quick to explain, but we reserve the discretion to act without warning in egregious cases.
Your content
You retain ownership of what you post. By posting, you grant Synod of Soup a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to display, store, and distribute your contribution as part of the site's normal operation. You may delete your contributions at any time, which removes them from public display.
Liability and disclaimer
This site is provided as-is, without warranty. Religious traditions presented here are summarized to the best of our scholarly ability but no representation is perfect — read primary sources for binding statements of any tradition's faith. We are not responsible for content posted by users.
Changes
We may update these terms. Significant changes will be noted on this page; continued use after a change constitutes acceptance.
